2026 Anniversary Guide: America’s Most Nostalgic Summer Yet

Some summers feel bigger than others.

This year, 2026, is shaping up to be one of the most nostalgic and historic summers America has seen in decades — a year filled with anniversaries, iconic birthdays, and celebrations of the places and traditions that shaped American culture. With Shadow Lake turning 100 years old this Memorial Weekend, we thought it would be fun to explore some other huge milestones that share this legendary year with us.

America's nostalgic summer anniversary guide

We made a guide for America's most nostalgic summer anniversary list. Let's start with one that's closest to home:

Shadow Lake's 100th anniversary

For a century, Shadow Lake has been part of summers in Noel, Missouri — a place where people escape city life, float the Elk River, camp with friends, listen to live music, and create memories that last long after summer ends.

Long before smartphones and streaming playlists, people gathered here for the exact same reason they still do today:

To slow down and enjoy summer the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.

America Turns 250

2026 also marks the 250th anniversary of the United States, making this summer especially meaningful for destinations rooted in American traditions and outdoor culture.

For generations across Northwest Arkansas, Joplin, Tulsa, and the Four State area, the Ozarks have been the backdrop for summer memories.

Families who floated these rivers decades ago are now bringing back their kids and grandkids.

That’s what makes places like Shadow Lake special.

Budweiser Turns 150 in 2026

Few brands are woven into American culture quite like Budweiser.

First introduced in 1876, Budweiser celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2026 — marking a century and a half of backyard cookouts, summer concerts, road trips, baseball games, and unforgettable nights with friends.

For generations, Budweiser has been part of the soundtrack of the American summer. From neon beer signs and roadside bars to river floats and campfires, it became more than just a beer brand — it became part of Americana itself.

And honestly, a cold Budweiser on a summer night at the river still just feels right.

To help Budweiser celebrate 150 years, Shadow Lake will have $1.50 budweiser draught pours and bottomless mimosas on May 23rd from 2PM - 6 PM. This party kicks off the season's beach party series with a float-up DJ set from GMartinez.

Route 66 Turns 100 — And the Ozarks Still Carry That Spirit

Established in 1926, Route 66 became one of the most iconic highways in American history. It represented freedom, adventure, road trips, roadside attractions, and discovering places you would never find on an interstate.

That same spirit still exists throughout the Ozarks today.

Places like Noel, Missouri continue to offer the kind of authentic summer experiences people have been searching for since the early days of American road travel — river floats, campfires, cold drinks, live music, and weekends that feel disconnected from everyday life.

In many ways, Shadow Lake is part of that same Americana story.

Winnie-the-Pooh turns 100

In 1926, the world was introduced to one of the most beloved children’s characters ever created: Winnie-the-Pooh.

Now, 100 years later, Winnie-the-Pooh remains a symbol of nostalgia, friendship, and childhood wonder.

For generations, the stories of the Hundred Acre Wood have been passed down from parents to children — becoming part of family traditions all over the world. Even a century later, Pooh’s simple outlook on life still resonates with people of all ages.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Turns 150

Published in 1876, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer turns 150 years old in 2026.

Written by Missouri author Mark Twain, the novel became one of the most iconic stories ever written about American youth, freedom, adventure, and life along the river.

Even 150 years later, the story still captures something timeless about summer in the Midwest — exploring outdoors, getting into trouble with friends, floating rivers, chasing adventure, and making memories that feel larger than life.

Marilyn Monroe would have turned 100

Few cultural icons represent classic Americana quite like Marilyn Monroe.

Born in 1926, Marilyn Monroe would have celebrated her 100th birthday in 2026 — a milestone that highlights just how enduring her influence has remained across generations.

From old Hollywood glamour to vintage roadside Americana aesthetics, Marilyn became one of the defining faces of mid-century American culture. Even today, her style and influence still appear everywhere from fashion and photography to retro travel culture and vintage-inspired events.

Apple turns 50

In 1976, a small startup called Apple was founded in a California garage.

Fifty years later, Apple has become one of the most influential companies in modern history — changing the way people communicate, work, create, travel, listen to music, and share experiences with the world. From the first Macintosh computers to the iPhone era, Apple helped define entire generations of technology and culture.

And in a way, Apple’s 50th anniversary perfectly reflects how much the world has changed since Shadow Lake first opened in 1926.

Over the last century, technology transformed nearly every part of life — but people still search for the same things they always have: connection, adventure, music, memories, and experiences worth sharing.

Even in the age of smartphones and social media, there’s still something special about unplugging for a weekend at the lake, floating the river with friends, and enjoying summer the old-fashioned way.

Some things change fast. The best summer memories usually don’t.
