Shadow Lake Behind the Booth: DJ Tae Q & A

Joplin-based DJ Taevon Germany, aka DJ Tae, will be behind the booth a lot this season at Shadow Lake.
Though he used to consider himself a promoter first, and DJ second, this self-taught DJ quickly made a name for himself in the four-state area through his mixed media company Midwest Quality. Tae has a no-nonsense attitude, and is not afraid to shoot it straight with his fans and following by setting high standards in and out of the club.
With Tae behind the decks expect a high-energy night, where everything is left on the dance floor. After his set, you will most likely leave at closing time with a list of new music, and excitement for the next night out.
Q: How long have you been a DJ?
A: Two and a half years.
Q: How did you get into DJing?
A: I started off as a promoter and one day a buddy of mine asked if I wanted a DJ board. I thought to myself “If I have a board, I can just DJ some events that I already had planned” after that I spent a summer in my room just self teaching and practicing and decided to throw and DJ a back-to-school event.
Q: What kind of music do you enjoy playing the most?
A: As far as music I like to play, I really just play for the crowd. If I get a few request I know what direction to go and build off that energy into other genres. The ones for me that are pleasing to the ear (I say that because DJ’s wear headphones lol) would be EDM, Afrobeat, Afro House, House, and anything Gunna. Honestly, for me it’s a frequency thing.
Q: Who is your favorite artist right now?
A: My favorite Artist would be Gunna.
Q: When did you start performing at Shadow Lake?
A: I first got to DJ at Shadow lake in the summer of 23 I believe. DJ GMartinez had put me on. Appreciate him for ever bringing me on board. That’s my dawg for sure.
Q: What makes Shadow Lake unique?
A: What makes DJing at Shadow Lake unique to me is one, the fishbowl (I don’t even like to drink but I love those lol). Another thing would be the view. All in all, we can all agree the entire view and size of the venue, especially from the booth, is amazing. Ownership is very nice, polite, and professional as well. Very easy to work with.
Q: Which of your Shadow Lake events are you most excited about this season?
A: The event I’m probably most excited about this year would probably be the night me and DJ Demon time DJ together on May 2nd. I like working with DJs I haven’t got the chance to work with before. I always pick up now things and learn more tricks.
At the same time, I’ve seen the motion, growth, and impact DT has in the Springfield area. I respect the work ethic and I like working with people who stay consistent with what they do. I’ve seen DT DJ, and DT ain’t regular. This collab was gone happen sooner or later and given the way everything is set up that day is the perfect time.
Q: What can guests expect when you’re behind the booth this summer?
A: I’ve made it easier for guests to make requests. I’ll have QR codes posted around and they just need to scan the code and then it’ll take them to a site or app to request a song. The search pulls from Apple Music and once they send the request it’ll go directly to my laptop and phone so I’ll see the notification. They won’t have to do a lot of walking to get a request. On top of that, the link will allow people to see request others have sent in and allow them to vote on it as well.
Q: If you could tell our guests one thing what would it be?
A: I’d probably say just be yourself and have fun. No need for drama or complications. Don’t be afraid to send in a request or ask me how to do it. The more requests I have the more I know what direction I want to do with the music. Also come with a DD! ABSOLUTELY NO DRUNK DRIVING!
